Challenge Poznan, Poland

Time of year: Jun

Value for money: 4

Location: 4

Crowd support: 3

Organisation: 3

PB potential: 4

Course: 1-lap river swim, flat 4-lap bike course and 8-lap run course

Competitors: Approximately 300

Locality: Poznan is a great city and the sports area is amazing. The city is historic and at the same time it seems modern. It is a great place to spend a few days.

Getting there: drove in but there are cheap flights to local airports from the UK and other destinations.

Webpage:  It has been cancelled but I think Endu sports still have a race here.

My experience (2016): My first impression was that there was not a lot happening when I came to get my start number. The usual hustle and bustle was not there and the clothing stalls etc were small and not well stocked. (I was not surprised to find out when I got home that it would not be a Challenge event again).

On the day, the race started very late but once we started I was happy to finish the swim and get on the bike course, which was fast and fun! Unfortunately, I’d hurt my leg playing football with the kids at school and I really suffered on the run course, when we had all weather in the 3.5 hours it took me to finish! Hot sun, heavy rain, wind, thunder and lightning – you name it, we had it!

With everybody leaving and terrible weather, I decided not to wait around after I finished and ate something I got in the car and drove home again. The race was very cheap but a bit of a disappointment.
