Time of year: July

Course: Bike course is quite hilly but fast, run is flat
Competitors: Approximately 150
Locality: Sobacov is a small town in Moravia in the Czech Republic. There did not seem an awful lot to do there although it is quite close to Olomouc which is a very picturesque city.
Getting there: The best way to get to Sobacov if you’re travelling from outside abroad is to fly to Prague or Brno and then take a bus or train.

My experience: The area where the triathlon took place was quite pretty and there was a little pub and places to play volleyball etc. The swim was in a small lake and when we were swimming I got hit in the head by a fish! It must’ve been a fish as there were no other swimmers anywhere near me!
The bike course was a bit hilly and it was a drafting race (I think this has changed now – there was an accident a few metres in front of me on a downhill stretch that day) which was new for me and I wasn’t entirely happy about it. The bike was over quickly and then we started a two-lap run which was out and back. I pushed quite hard and finished the race in 2h20, a personal best. Not bad 3 weeks after an Ironman 🙂
